Mexico is advancing toward a gradual energy transition, with electric mobility playing an increasingly important role. Through guidelines promoted by the Ministry of Energy (SENER), the country has begun laying the foundation for the growth of EV charging infrastructure.

The current regulatory framework aims to:

  • Encourage private investment in charging stations

  • Facilitate grid interconnection

  • Promote renewable energy pilot projects

  • Strengthen technical and safety standards

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has also been modernizing grid capacity in high-demand urban areas.

Government Strategic Focus:

1️⃣ Gradual transport decarbonization
Mexico has adopted international commitments to reduce emissions and promote clean energy use.

2️⃣ Indirect fiscal incentives
While direct subsidies remain limited, tax benefits and regulatory facilitation exist for electromobility projects.

3️⃣ International cooperation
Institutions such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) support research and pilot financing.

Despite progress, regulatory harmonization across states remains a challenge.

Mexico is now entering a consolidation phase — the foundation has been built, and acceleration is expected in the coming years.
